Literature

Literature is a wonderful to introduce big ideas about the world to students. Literature can show students how their actions can impact themselves, their class community, and the outside world around them. These are some novels that have impacted my students in a positive way to create a mindful classroom environment.

When reading these stories, teachers can have the students write down their observations using picture, key words that stick out, how the story made them feel, how the story relates to themselves, the classroom and their outside world.

Music

Listening to music is a unique way to introduce big ideas about the world to students. Music gives students the ability to listen and express themselves through their thoughts and actions. Music can impact the students themselves, their class community, and the outside world around them. These are some songs that have impacted my students in a positive way to create a mindful classroom environment. 

 

While the songs are playing, have students write in a journal about how they feel and what the moral of the songs are to create a class conversation that relates to themselves and others around them.
